OUR STORY
The Portland Athletic Club was opened on October 9th, 1977, by Marion Blackburn, a business owner, and a local tennis professional who competed on the West Coast Tennis Circuit. From humble beginnings in a SW Portland warehouse, Marion started Tennis Lessons Inc. with 2 indoor courts. There was barely enough room for the courts, let alone side and backcourts.

Within two years, he had over 400 students and several instructors competing for court time. Marion realized that there was a tremendous need for more indoor courts in Portland. With an SBA loan and his own funds, his dream began to take shape. After months of construction, he opened his doors as a privately owned indoor tennis club. Marion remains the sole owner of the club, now run by his family.
Portland Athletic Club has five indoor courts, affordable rates, and the perfect family-friendly atmosphere for your tennis.
The club has a Junior Academy Program for children, a public Tennis League for adults, Instructors for private or group lessons, and drop-in clinics that are open to the public.
